In the fourth quarter of 2017, the Russian Security Council will hold a meeting on “The state of security of the information infrastructure in Russia and measures to strengthen it”, which, inter alia, proposes discussing information security standards using the Internet of things (IoT) technology and mass production of domestic IoT devices.
According to consulting company AC & M, in 2016, 85 billion rubles were spent on products and services related to the Internet of things, compared with 2015, the growth was 42%. The revenues of Russian operators from IoT services amounted to 7.6 billion rubles, which is 25% more than a year ago.
According to Sergey Alimbekov, Director for Technical Development of the Internet Initiatives Development Fund, in the next five to seven years more than 400 million devices will appear on the Russian IoT market: appliances in the housing and utilities sector, energy, healthcare, transport, logistics, agro-industry and other industries.
“Most IOT devices used in Russia are manufactured in China and Taiwan. At the same time, if it is not a question of applying in a critical infrastructure or on strategic facilities with special requirements for certification, there is nothing wrong with importing microelectronic devices – they are affordable and of high quality, these devices are used by the whole world, “says Alimbekov, That in Russia it is necessary to increase the production of devices that require science-intensive technologies and are used in tightly regulated fields of application.
Andrei Kolesnikov, Director of the Internet of Things Association, called the launch of a mass production of sensors and controllers for the Internet of things in Russia a promising direction.
“If all metering devices are transferred to automatic work and data transmission, it will be about 200 million devices, that is, a large and promising market. And there are also ticket systems for municipal transport, a variety of cardiac sensors in medicine, environmental monitoring systems, monitoring of garbage disposal, and others”, – he said.
